Our Story

The idea of establishing a school of nursing started about four decades ago when the quadrumvirate – the late Dr. Genaro B. Valencia Jr., Dr. Venancio Yap, Dr. Sergio Demontaño and Dr. Mariano Chu embarked on a project of founding a hospital – the General Santos Doctors’ Hospital.

Having accomplished their dream of constructing the hospital, one of the finest in General Santos City, the pioneering spirit of the late Dr. Genaro Valencia Jr. and Dr. Venancio Yap rekindled their second dream – school. ... On May 30, 2002, the General Santos Doctors’ Medical School Foundation, Inc. was finally founded and registered with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). The school finally opened on June 9, 2003, about a year after its registration. The late Dr. Carmen Dormitorio, Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education Region XII issued the permit to operate the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program with 140 enrollees. March 30, 2007, marked the first Commencement Exercises of the school with 54 graduates for Bachelor of Science in Nursing. With this achievement the School Administrator decided to open a two-year program, the Diploma in Midwifery. Through the visionary effort of Dr. Genaro Valencia, he vigorously planned to open up two baccalaureate courses, the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology and Bachelor of Science in Psychology last June 16, 2008, with 14 enrollees for BS Radiologic Technology and 11 for BS Psychology. On June 15, 2010, the new school site was officially utilized. The newly assigned Regional Director of Commission on Higher Education Region XII in person of Dr. Eloisa Paderanga issued the permit for the course offering of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology with 38 enrollees. Year after another program was offered, the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with 50 enrollees. In the year 2016, GSDMSFI launched its Senior High school department with a STEM track. Just this 2018, the CHED issued the permit for the offering of BS Physical Therapy and BS Midwifery. By then, GSDMSFI had been producing quality healthcare providers evident in the board results.
