Who We Are

Molding healthcare professionals who combine clinical competence with compassion, leadership, and a deep commitment to community service since 2003

The General Santos Doctors’ Medical School Foundation, Inc. (GSDMSFI) was established out of a vision first conceived in 1968 by Dr. Genaro B. Valencia Jr. and Dr. Venancio Yap, founders of the General Santos Doctors’ Hospital. Their dream of building an educational institution dedicated to training healthcare professionals came to life on May 30, 2002, with the official registration of GSDMSFI under the Securities and Exchange Commission. The school formally opened in June 2003 with its pioneering program, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, enrolling 144 students under the leadership of its first president, Dr. Valencia.

In response to the growing demand for allied health professionals, GSDMSFI gradually expanded its academic offerings. It introduced Midwifery (2007), Radiologic Technology and Psychology (2008), Medical Technology (2010), Pharmacy (2011), Senior High School STEM strand (2016), and Physical Therapy and BS Midwifery (2018). To accommodate its growth, the institution relocated to its present campus at Bulaong Compound in 2010, featuring state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and administrative offices. Expansion continued with the completion of a five-story building in 2022, which houses additional classrooms, offices, and a gymnasium, followed by the unveiling of a fully airconditioned gymnasium in 2025.

Through the years, GSDMSFI has earned recognition for its academic excellence. In the November 2024 Nurses Licensure Examination, it ranked among the Top 10 Performing Nursing Schools nationwide. The institution also secured Top 1 in Region 12 for the Pharmacy and Radiologic Technology Licensure Exams, placed 2nd in Medical Technology, and achieved a 100% passing rate in Midwifery for three consecutive years. Beyond licensure success, its students have also excelled in competitions, such as winning the 2024 Regional Battle of the Nightingales and representing Region 12 at the national level.

Today, under the leadership of Dr. Grace Joy Gerada-Nietes, who has served as Dean and AVPA since 2005, and with the continued support of its Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff, GSDMSFI stands as a premier institution for allied health education in Mindanao. With ongoing initiatives such as the installation of solar panels for sustainability, the school remains committed to innovation, community service, and shaping competent, compassionate healthcare professionals for the future.
